MANDIE MAURER

Psychotherapist

I bring a quite proactive approach to the therapy room, teaching skills and ways of reorienting to our world, as well as new ways of connecting with ourselves and others, leading to deep healing and clarity.

My approach is largely influenced by Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) while also bringing in psychodynamic and attachment-oriented lenses, as needed.

I grew up in a small town in Michigan, but my career began on the other side of the world in Tokyo, Japan, where I founded my first practice, Tokyo Harmony. There, I deepened my work with expatriate communities and individuals navigating complex multicultural identities.

Having lived as an expatriate myself in countries across Asia and Europe—Japan, China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Taiwan, the U.K., France, and Germany—I know firsthand what it’s like to adjust to new places, juggle a multicultural lifestyle, and move through big life transitions.

Over the years, many people have also come to me for support with childhood trauma, self-esteem, relationships, and Borderline Personality Disorder. These are areas I’ve become especially dedicated to. In bringing Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy into my work, I’ve seen clients find greater relief, clarity, peace, and empowerment. Because of this, I often center my approach around IFS, blending it with other methods when they’re the best fit.

I began my studies and training at the University of Michigan and am now based in Chicago, Illinois. My background includes a wide range of clinical experience—working with both individuals and groups—across issues such as:
